Thought for the Week

"Take the best into your mind and only that. Nurture it, concentrate on it, visualize it, pray over it, surround it with faith. Make it your obsession. Spiritually creative mindpower, aided by God power, will produce the best.  Never start a day or any job without praying about it. You will get some of your best ideas that way"

(From Positive Thinking Bible - A footnote by Norman Vincent Peale)

Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust

Annual Sponsored Ride/Walk 2008: Saturday 13th September

Although usually known as a bike ride, this can be done as a walk.  Including St Peter's Stratton (to which we would start by catching a bus), there are ten churches in and around Cirencester.  Although it is a sponsored walk with half the money raised going to the 'home' church, there is no pressure at all to raise money.  If anyone is interested in joining a group to do this, and invite friends from other churches to join us, please speak to Dinah Wise  Tel. 652744 soon!

G A R A S

There will be a collection of goods for this refugee organisation at Coffee Cup on FRIDAY August 15th  10.am  - 11. 30.am. Here are some suggestions for articles which would be appreciated, (a comprehensive list is on the Notice board) : Tinned food (Not baked beans), dry  goods, toiletries.

This is our local mission project this year and your support would be very welcome. - Thora Manning

Would those who have NCH Collecting Boxes, please let Ralph Stephen have them at the end of this month or in early August if possible. (He expects to be at Morning Service on 27th July, 3rd and 10th August.)

Order Of Service

Minister

Rev. Stuart Drummond

Organist

 Miss Janet Edwards

Steward’s Welcome – then a Pause for Quietness.

Introduction to worship:

Leader: God said, ‘Let joy abound!’

              And he created a world of infinite beauty.

              Inspired by what he saw, a Psalmist said:

ALL:     ‘You have made humankind master over all that you

              have made, crowning us with glory and honour…

              You have put everything in subjection under our feet:

              all sheep and oxen, all the wild beasts,

              the birds of the air, the fish of the sea,

              and everything that moves along the ocean paths.’

Leader: God said, ‘Let joy abound!’

              And he gave his Law and sent prophets to teach his will.

              Inspired by God’s Spirit, one named Isaiah said:

ALL:     ‘The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me

              because he has anointed me;

              he has sent me to announce good news to the

              humble and to bind up the broken-hearted,

              to proclaim liberty to captives,

              release to those in prison…

              and comfort to all who mourn.

Leader: God said, ‘Let joy abound!’

              And he came himself, incarnate in Christ who proclaimed

              God’s Kingdom and blessed people with these words:

ALL:     ‘I am the bread of life…My words are the words

              of eternal life.’

              ‘Peace is my parting gift to you, my own peace,

              such as the world cannot give.’

Leader: God said, ‘Let joy abound!’

              And he gifted his Holy Spirit to all who believe in him

              that we may know that God’s joy abounds!

ALL:     In the joy God gives, we praise our Maker.

              Amen

Sermon

Offering & Dedication

HYMN       JESUS CALLS US HERE TO MEET HIM

(Tune: Lewis Folk Melody – Common Ground 66;

Words: John Bell & Graham Maule / WGRG Iona Community)

v1               Jesus calls us here to meet him

                   as, through word and song and prayer,

                   we affirm God’s promised presence

                   where his people live and care.

                   Praise the God who keeps his promise;

                   praise the Son who calls us friends;

                   praise the Spirit who, among us,

                   to our hopes and fears attends.

v2               Jesus calls us to confess him

                   Word of Life and Lord of all,

                   sharer of our flesh and frailness

                   saving all who fail and fall.

                   Tell his holy human story;

                   tell his tales that all may hear;

                   tell the world that Christ in glory

                   came to earth to meet us here.

v3               Jesus calls us to each other:

                   vastly different though we are;

                   race and colour, class and gender

                   neither limit nor debar.

                   Join the hand of friend and stranger;

                   join the hands of age and youth,

                   join the faithful and the doubter

                   in their common search for truth.

v4               Jesus calls us to his table

                   rooted firm in time and space,

                   where the church in earth and heaven

                   finds a common meeting place.

                   Share the bread and wine, his body;

                   share the love of which we sing;

                   share the feast for saints and sinners

                   hosted by our Lord and King.
